Akshay Kumar on why Selfiee is special to him

The Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi starrer Selfiee sees the superstar playing a superstar in the Raj Mehta directorial. Akshay has earlier even played himself in cameos in his home production, The Shaukeeens (a remake of the 1982 Shaukeen directed by Basu Chaterjee) and the recent An Action Hero (2022).

Impressing upon this, he says “It has been over 32 years in the industry for me. But I am still the Chandni Chowk boy from Delhi. We stars are as human as the rest of the country and our fans. The film is dedicated to all the fans of all the celebrities in the world. We are alive because of our fans, nahin to hamari koi aukaat nahin hai  (otherwise we would be nothing)!”

Apart from Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty also star in the movie. Star Studios presents the film in association with Dharma Productions, Prithviraj Productions, Magic Frames and Cape Of Good Films.

Produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Supriya Menon, Karan Johar, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Apoorva Mehta and Listin Stephen, Selfiee will release in theatres on February 24. It is a remake of the 2019 Malayalam film, Driving Licence about a superstar who needs to obtain a new driving license. The RTO (Road Transport Organization) officer, Om Prakash, is a policeman who is a diehard fan of Vijay along with his son.  Their biggest dream is to take a selfie with their idol. However, a misunderstanding leads to the superstar ill-treating the policeman in front of his son. The incident blows up into a feud that is highlighted by the media. So what happens when a fan turns hostile?

A unique feature is that Prithviraj Sukumaran, who produced and acted as the superstar in the original, is also co-producing this remake.
