Amazon’s Discounted Smart Thermostat Is the Prime Day Deal That Keeps on Giving

Upgrading your existing thermostat to a smart thermostat is an easy way to save money on your energy bills each month. Amazon’s Smart Thermostat allows you to control the temperature of your home remotely, running the system when you’re on the way home so that it’s comfortable when you arrive and limiting its use while you’re gone. Plus, the convenience of adjusting the temp without ever getting out of bed is unparalleled on chilly (or sweaty) nights. Amazon has matched its all-time lowest price for this thermostat with this latest sale, bringing the cost of the Smart Thermostat down to just $48. Normally it sells for $60, making this limited-time deal a 20% savings.

In her Amazon Smart Thermostat review, CNET’s Megan Wollerton said that it “offers the absolute best value of any smart thermostat out there today” — and that was at full price. At 20% off, that’s an even better value. The Smart Thermostat earned a CNET Editors’ Choice Award, which is only given to products that deliver the absolute best value for most consumers.

There are two versions of the Smart Thermostat, one that comes with a C-Wire and one that works without one. The lower pricing of today’s deal is only available for the one that does not include a C-Wire adapter. You’ll want to use the on-page compatibility checker to see which of the two versions will work with your existing HVAC system.

With the summer heat creeping in across the country, there’s really no better time than right now to invest in a smarter way to keep yourself cool over the next few months.

Want to automate your home without having to buy all new smart home devices? Try out the Amazon smart plug, a simple solution to turning lights, fans and appliances on or off automatically or remotely. You can pair the smart plug with Alexa to add voice control. Just say “Alexa, turn on the fan” and it will be done. Same thing goes for coffee makers, electric kettles, humidifiers, lamps and holiday lighting. While smart plugs are usually $25 each, you can get one (or many) for just $13 with free Prime shipping. This deal is a part of Amazon’s limited-time deals on home devices and only lasts for the next eight days.

The smart plugs can be controlled by the Alexa app and you can create routines with a simple request. For example, you can ask Alexa to start your morning routine and it will turn on lights and your coffee maker at the same time. You can set up “away lighting” to make it look like you’re home when you’re away, so there’s no need for fancy Home Alone tricks to guard your house during the holidays.

It has an on/off button, an LED light, and can fit into any traditional three-prong socket. It also comes with a one-year limited warranty. A couple things to note: The plug has to be connected to a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network to work, and it’s not weatherproof so it can only be used indoors.

As we get closer to the official Amazon Prime Day start, we will likely see more deals on Amazon’s own hardware, so be sure to stay tuned for the deals as they become available.
